Regional travel rules of thumb
Book Early for Sakura & Koyo
For cherry blossom season (late March-April) and autumn leaves (November), book flights and hotels 2-3 months ahead. Prices surge 40-80% during these weeks.
Avoid Golden Week & Obon
Golden Week (late April-May 5) and Obon (mid-August) are Japan's two biggest travel peaks. Every bullet train and hotel is packed. Travel just after and watch prices collapse.
Mix North & South
A 2-week trip can chase the seasons: Hokkaido in winter for snow, then Kyoto in late March for sakura, or Okinawa in spring then the Alps in autumn.
