Overview
Tohoku occupies the northeast of Honshu and is Japan's great hidden quarter. It has spectacular snow in winter (the 'snow monsters' of Zao, the Hakkoda mountains), a gorgeous late sakura season (typically late April to early May), and the loudest, most joyful festival of the year — Aomori's Nebuta Matsuri in August.
